Today's Flowers #12

Photobucket

a Black Hellebore (Helleborus niger) aka Christmas Rose. It always makes me think of Tad Williams' great novel "The War of the Flowers"

Beautiful. I love the blooms. I think I have one that is like this and is called the Lenten rose cuz it blooms at Easter time in my neck of the woods...

Awesome! Is that really two different colored flowers from one stem? Cool!

Jedediah said...

2sweetnsaxy: yes, they grow from one stem. Sometimes, H. niger can have even three flowers on one stem. The pinkish flower is probably a bit older than the white one, they can turn pink before they wither.
